Gung Hei Fat Choy!

Gung Hei Fat Choy!

We had an awesome time ringing in the Chinese New Year! Parades, rice, good luck letters and envelopes, lanterns and stories. WE WERE BUSY!

We will be swimming on February 2 from 10 am until 11 am. Are you able to help drive and/or swim? Letters will be coming home tomorrow but you can also email me if you would like. If your child is a weak swimmer I strongly encourage you to try and join us in the pool.

Clay for Kids was really fun! Our class created beautiful tiles and we are very excited to see the finished project.

January 16 - January 20

Snow! I can hardly believe it! I will take this snow over the wind any day of the week! Sorry if you don't agree.

Clay for Kids starts this week! The whole school will be taking part in this special project. Our class will practice making our tiles tomorrow and will be creating our "real" tiles on Thursday. Thank you to our volunteers who have contacted me. We will see you Thursday at 11:00 in the Art Room.

There is not too much happening this week in terms of big events. Tomorrow is "Dress in Sports Apparel Day". You can come in your favourite Jersey or hockey t-shirt. Maybe you have a soccer jersey at home or want to wear a pair of swim goggles. Maybe you have a tutu to wear! We will be having an assembly at 12:45 tomorrow.

Just a heads up that we will be swimming on February 2 from 10-11. If you are able to drive and swim or just drive please keep that date open. Thanks so much! A note will be coming home soon.

Happy 2012! I hope it has been a great start for you all. The holidays were wonderful and hope yours were full of good food and relaxation. Today was a shock to the system for all of us I think!!! The students were troopers. I had a busy day planned and we got through everything! Nice work!

Thursday is Library day as usual. Hopefully all books have already been returned prior to the holidays. If you happen to have a library book at home please send it back ASAP.

In your child's agenda today there will be a note about the Cheesecake Cafe reading program. This is totally up to you as a parent if you would like your child to participate or not. Just use the home reading books that are sent home each night to count towards filling in a piece of the cake. If your child is reading a chapter book, every chapter or 2 (depending on length) will count towards a coloured piece. When the whole cake is coloured and initialed by a parent send it back in and I will award your child with a gift certificate.

Next week our school will begin "Clay for Kids". This is an art residency that our school was granted money for. We are VERY excited for this program. The end result will be a HUGE mural that will be in the entryway of our school. The mural will represnet Lethbridge. The students will have 2 sessions with the clay. One will be to create their clay tile. The second session will be to paint the tiles once they have been cured. I am in need of 4 parent volunteers on January 19th to help with this first session. If you are interested please let me know. The time is from 11:00- 11:45.
