Skating Drivers Needed!

Hope you all had a great weekend and are not feeling too stressed with Christmas "stuff"!

Spelling words this week are:
name - same - save - brave - face - place - snake - wake - skate - have

We are VERY SHORT on drivers for the skating date on December 16th. If you are already signed up THANK YOU so much. If you think you might be able to make it to help drive and pick up please email and let me know. Thank you to Mrs. Richardson, Mrs. Olmstead and Mrs. Van Seters for driving so far.

If your child does not have skates we will try to find a pair through the school but please remember there are 100 Grade 2 students skating so it will be a tough job. If you have friends, family or neighbours you could borrow from, please check into it. Same for helmets. Although Nicholas Sheran has some to borrow, with 100 students skating there most likely will not be enough. Without both helmets and skates they are not able to be on the ice.

If you have not yet sent in your sledding consent from interview time could you please send it back ASAP. Thanks so much!

Some fun photos....

Snowshoeing today was a BLAST! Pretty funny stuff watching them all truck around in their huge snowshoes! Not one student gave up and it was a beautiful day!

It was Ms. T's last day yesterday. :( We were sad to see her go but we are so happy that she was a part of our class. Thank you for all of your hard work and good luck with your super bright future!

I will be sending home  a note about the skating on the 16th. I will be in need of parent drivers to take us there and bring us back. Students will need to have skates and a proper helmet to be on the ice. If your child does not have skates perhaps they could boorow from a similar sized buddy for the day or check out second hand sporting good stores.  Bike helmets are not allowed on the ice. We have a blast out there! Please come join us!

December Events and Corrections!

Happy Birthday Hailey! We hope you had a great day and thanks for the delicious treat.

Thank you also to Chase's family who offered to bring meat and pickles for our Christmas Party.

I know that there has been some confusion regarding the notices I sent out for Gingerbread Decorating Day...SORRY.

Gingerbread Decorating will be on WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 15 at 10:20-11:30 in the Art Room.

Mr. Bryant informed us of another Christmas Activity happening on the Tuesday afternoon so changing the date is better so that our class does not miss out. Thank you for your patience and flexibility.

Treat People for Gingerbread Decorating Day on the 15th are:
Cookies: Jordan and Mitchell
Squares: Keinan and Josh

Christmas Party will still be on the 17th with all of the same snack volunteers.

Meet Piper!

This is the dog the Grade 2's at MMH adopted for the Christmas Season. If you have any treats, toys, leashes, unopened food or a loonie or toonie to donate it would be awesome to add to our 2 items we have so far. Piper will be visiting us in December. We would love to have a few more things to donate.

We're Back!

Four days off and we are right back into the groove of things! Forecast calls for snow this week so please remind your little ones to bundle up in layers and bring the proper footwear and mitts and hats.

What is happening this week?!
  • Report Cards are coming home on Friday.
  • Spelling is due Thursday and test is on Friday.
  • Library day is Wednesday.
  • Interviews are next week! Please sign up for a meeting time online if you have not done so already.
Christmas time is coming and traditionally we always decorate gingerbread houses as a group. Each student will have to have a parent/adult helper and a gingerbread house to decorate. I will send out more details closer to the time but knowing parents need to book off work etc. we will be decorating the afternoon of December 14th. Keep your eye out for gingerbread kits. Costco and Safeway have had some good reasonably priced ones in the past.

We will also be starting a Christmas project. If you have any of the following supplies kicking around at home, would you mind sending them to school? We will put them to good use! Thanks so much!

  • fabric scraps (any pattern or colour)
  • sequins
  • white or black felt
  • red or green ribbon
  • old Christmas greeting cards ( we only need the picture covers)
  • old buttons

Remembrance Day Week...

I hope you are all having an easy time adjusting to the time change! My alarm clock is NOT!
Here are the updates for this week:

  • No spelling for this week.
  • Grade 2's perform at 10:30 in the Remembrance Day Assembly Wednesday.
  • They need to wear dark bottoms and red or white tops and a poppy for the assembly.
  • Please send along a small flashlight as requested by Ms. Nevels for Tuesday rehearsal.
  • We need shoeboxes! If you have any extra at home please send them on in. Every student needs one.
  • No school on Thursday or Friday.
Also remember that every Wednesday is Library day. All books need to be in the backpack or at school so they can be returned.
Thanks for all of your help at home with the constant "busyness" of Grade 2!

Bonus Question for the Week...for a sticker:

Conner has 5 skateboards in his backyard. Each skateboard has 4 wheels. How many wheels are there altogether?

Remember to show a picture, a number sentence and a written sentence.

Hola Miss. T !

Miss. T is an amazing member of our class! She has been with us for over a month now and she is a marvelous help. Miss. T is a Lethbridge College student and if I could, I would hire her right now! She works closely with a few students in our class and is a help to all of us. I have watched her make the confidence of  young students SOAR! Thank you for all that you do Miss. T. We are so lucky to have you for one more month! Your patience and kind encouragment is a gift.

Crazy Hat Day!

Check out all of the cool hats we had in our classroom today!

Congratulations to Josh and Brynn who were our Special People in the assembly today.

Our class worked SO HARD today! You could feel the heat from all of the work...(or maybe it was my fuzzy hat)! Way to go Grade 2! Awesome Job.

Check out yesterday's post for the math question to earn a sticker!

We made it through Monday!

Phew! The Monday after Halloween is over! The students were great considering the busy weekend they all had! Thanks for your help with controlling the amount of candy coming to school.

Pumpkin Seed Roasting!
Today we finished up some math work with our pumpkins and they were all sent home. If you have time this evening and feel like scooping out the pumpkin seeds we would love to have you send them to school in a zip-lock bag! I would love to roast them and share the recipe in our pumpkin books.

Things to keep in mind this week:

Crazy Hat Day tomorrow - Assembly at 8:30 am.
Spelling due Thursday and test on Friday
Words this week are:
shut - shell - dish - fish - wish - shop - ship - rush - push - sheep
Library day is Wednesday. Please help your child remember to have any library books in their backpack!

Congratulations to Madi A. who was awarded the Citizens of Tommorow certificate. Every month a grade 2 student is nominated. In the past only Grades 3-5 were involved with this award. We are happy to now include the Grade 2's. Thank you to all of our sponsors who make this possible.

A new problem to earn a sticker for all of my students!
Remember to bring it to school or write the answer in your agenda. Show a number sentence, written sentence and picture.

Mr. Bryant had 16 pencils. Mr. Platt gave him 8 more to hand out as gifts. How many pencils does Mr. Bryant have altogether?

Halloween Weekend!

Wow! What a busy week we have had! Halloween descriptive writing and pumpkin activities and tomorrow is full of more Halloween fun! Please join us for the MMH parade at 8:45. After we will be enjoying bingo and crafts and then relaxing with snacks and a movie.

Thanks so much for all of your help and support with snacks, field trip transportation and home reading this week! The new library is awesome! I checked out a whole stack of great books, movies and music! Library cards are free for your kids so check it out if you have a chance!

Trick or treating is on the agenda for Sunday evening I am sure! Candy, Candy, Candy!

Would it be alright if I suggest that perhaps only 1 or 2 treats come in lunches along with some healthy snack options. All the sugar just does not sustain our busy minds during the school day. I can help students save these small treats for later in the day so we are not all on a sugar high and crashing by 10:00 am! Thank you for your help with this.

I wish you all a safe and happy Halloween! Check out the link below for some Halloween safety reminders.

Enjoy your long weekend together!

Thank you so much again for the positive response towards the blog! I only have a few consent forms left to be returned. If you have yet to do so, please send it in.

I am still in need of drivers for our trip to the new library! I need room for 5 more students. Please let me know if you can help October 28th. Thanks!

Thank you to all of you who noticed a few snack spots were needing to be filled. Danita Neis will be sending muffins for us and Cheryl Andres has offered to send veggies and dip. Thank to all of you who mentioned you could help.

Remember there is no school the next 2 days as the MMH staff will be professionally developing ourselves.

Please send your child to school with a pumpkin for Monday the 25th. We will be very busy measuring, weighing and counting bumps etc. with them. It is great for our math skills.

It has been brought to my attention that it is difficult to comment. Unfortunately I think you do need to make a quick google account and then you are able to. Google accounts are quick,  safe and I have really enjoyed mine if you are concerned.

Miss. Craddock's Little Peeps!! Solve the problem below! Show me how you solved it on Monday on a piece of paper and I will have a sticker for you!

Miss. Craddock had 15 pumpkins. She decided to carve 9 of them to put on her doorstep. How many pumpkins does she have left that are not carved?

Show a picture, number sentence and written sentence.

It's Friday!

It has been a week now that I have been building up the courage to start our classroom blog. Today I shared the site with our class so they knew where to go and check in on the information for the week. I hope this will be a helpful tool for you as well. In the side bar you will find the snack lists for the upcoming parties. I have sent home a note today asking for your consent to post pictures of your child on our blog. Pictures of field trips, special events, or school projects are a great way to share what is happening in our school days with you. If you could please fill it out and send it back Monday that would be great. If you wish for your child not to be on the blog please note that as well and your request will be respected. Have a wonderful weekend! Ask your child to show you the cool tipi site in the links section! One thing to check out over the weekend is the volunteer driver/supervisor form for our trip to the new Chinook Crossings Library ( October 28). I am still in need of a few volunteers. Thanks to those who have responded already!

Welcome to my first blog EVER!

Tadaaaa...I have created a blog! I am a complete newbie at this so please bear with me! My hope is that this becomes a wonderful weekly update to keep us all informed on the important happenings in our Grade 2 world. Calendar items, celebrations, field trip info, snack sign-up...find it all here! Let me know what you think! As we all learn together I hope my students will also become familiar with the blog so that they can participate and have access to educational links as well. What a neat way to keep in touch!
