Have we ever been busy! Last week was filled with trips, author visits, safety city and Terry Fox. We are so thankful for the opportunities we have for all of these extras that tie into our curriculum. Robert Heidbreder was ridiculously fun and the students LOVED him! Thanks to all of our parents who joined us for the Fort! It was certainly full of a few laughs and awesome learning. We especially enjoyed our time learning about First Nations artifacts. Thanks for all of your support with toonies for Terry and the magazines! KEEP THOSE ORDERS COMING!

Our class was so great for the Terry Fox walk today! Thank you parent volunteers for helping encourage the little stragglers and keeping us all safe! Our class raised almost $160.00! AMAZING!

Galt Gardens Trip

This week we are off to the Galt Gardens. This trip is led by Belinda Crowson. SHE IS FABULOUS! We will be taking part in a scavenger hunt for history all around the gardens. Thank you to the following parents who will be joining us for supervision on the trip:

Mrs. Varty – Mrs. S. Baker – Mr. Slomp – Mr. Sommerfeldt – Mrs. Kosolofski

Bussing will be provided for us and we will be picked up at 9:00. A fire drill is scheduled for the same time so we will still be practicing a quick and safe exit of the building! J

Character Education

We are always working on bettering ourselves at MMH. Character Education assemblies are an excellent chance for students to meet in family groups with students at all grades. We talk about all sorts of topics that help build character! Topics in the past have been kindness, friendship, responsibility and community. Wednesday afternoon will be our kick off for this school year.

Fire Prevention

October 7-11 is fire prevention week! We will be having a visit from a firefighter/paramedic as well as discussions about safe exits from our own homes. Look for a small family assignment that will be coming home to help carry over the discussion of safely exiting our homes during the chance of a fire.

Grade 2 is AWESOME!

This class is fantastic! I love their energy and how interested they are in learning new things! We have had some great buffalo discussion and our trip to the coulees was fun! Thank you to our parent volunteers who made it out to help get us there and back safely!

Special Fridays

Today we had our first Special Friday with Aiden! AWESOME JOB AIDEN! It was super. Aiden brought in a few photos on powerpoint and was super prepared to talk to the class about his chosen photos. His morning treat of banana muffins was delicious. Thank you to Aiden and his family for a great start to Special Fridays. I know he loved hearing his book of compliments as well. I love these mornings as a class.

The Fort on Tuesday

This week we are off to the Fort on Tuesday! Thank you to Mrs. S. Baker, Mrs. Jahn, Mrs, Lyle, Mrs. Deys, Mrs. Wolsey,  Mr. Sommerfeldt and Mr. Slomp who will all be driving and supervising. I appreciate your time. We will see you at the school at 9:40 Tuesday morning!

Terry Fox Walk/Fundraising

TOONIES FOR TERRY! We are encouraging each child to EARN a toonie for Terry. This could be for doing a small job around the house to help family or even some coins out of their own savings. The purpose is to promote work ethic just as Terry showed us. We will be having many more discussions about Terry in the upcoming week. Please join us on Friday for our Terry Fox Walk if you are able to! We will leave about 8:40.

Word on the Street
Safety City will also be visiting our class this week as well as an Author visit from Robert Heidbreder! We have been reading his books as a class and they are FUNNY! We are super excited to meet him. Check out the word on the street festival (Sept21-22) if you are able to! Ties in with our Author visit! Here is the link for more info:

Magazine Fundraiser

We had a great kickoff for our big fundraising event! All students have been sent home with their packages and info! We already have some sales in our class as well! Thanks for supporting MMH in this way so that the students are able to have even more experiences at school.

Thanks!

Thank you for an awesome start up to Grade 2! Your kids are AWESOME! We have been crazy busy working away and the students were SO PROUD to show off their work and classroom. If you were not able to make the welcome back night..NO WORRIES! Come take a look when you can! A few informational forms from the night will be coming home so take a peek in the back packs and agendas.

As alwaysplease feel free to e-mail me with any questions. If I do not already have your e-mail please send it my way or I will be contacting you shortly for it. Thanks!

Coulee Walk on Monday the 16th

We are off on our first field trip! We have started to learn about the History of Lethbridge and the First Nations people and we are excited. The kids know so much and have been excited to talk about buffalo, tipis and the coulees! Monday will be a great kick off. Thanks to our parent volunteers who will be walking with us! See you at 12:30 at the school.

Fort Whoop-Up

We will be heading to the Fort on September 24 from 10:00-11:30. We are in need of parent supervision and drivers to and from the trip! If you are able to help out we would love to have you! A form will be coming home on Monday the 16th.

Galt Trips

On October 2 and 22 we will be off to Galt Gardens and the Galt Museum! These trips are super interesting and so informational about our Lethbridge History! A bus provides our transportation but I would LOVE parent helpers specifically for the Galt Gardens trip as it is a hunt around the park for information. Volunteer note will be included with the Fort information.

Spelling

Spelling starts this week! Almost every week spelling words with a few short activities will be coming home on Mondays. The spelling homework is due on Thursdays! This homework is not meant to be stressful. It is meant to help with word families and building independence and responsibility. DO NOT stress about the homework being perfect. 5-10 minutes each night will have the homework done by Thursday. We will have a shirt test on Fridays and then the test and homework will be sent back home. Home Reading will not be starting until the first week of October.
